Barry Bonds: Baseball

Barry Lamar Bonds (born July 24, 1964) is the only person to surpass Hank Aaron’s (755) record of “most home runs in American baseball history.” He’s a former left fielder who played 22 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1986-1992) and San Francisco Giants (1993-2007). Although he broke numerous records and became a well-known baseball player, his accomplishments have been overshadowed by allegations regarding the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Greatest Sporting Achievements

Bonds hold the record for various Major League Baseball hitting records including home runs and most career walks. He also received eight Gold Gloves for his defense in the outfield. Barry Bonds is ranked the second in career wins above replacement among all major league position players, just behind Babe Ruth, by Fangraphs and Baseball-Reference.com

Why Was He So Good?

Barry Bonds was famous for his strength and all-purpose talent. It was when he played with the San Francisco Giants that he proved to be a dynamic hitter, setting the sport on its ear with 73. He was an exceptional hitter, finishing his regular season career with a very high on-base percentage (.444) and isolated power (.309).
