Boxing is one of the core Commonwealth Games sports. Boxing is also one of three sports that has been on every Games program - the others are Athletics and Swimming. Boxing at the Commonwealth Games up until 2014 was for men only. In 2014 there were three medal weights for women: flyweight, lightweight and middleweight, which were the same three categories that appeared at London 2012 Olympics.
Competition
- The competition take place according to the rules of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA).
- The competition is for men and women. For men, bouts in 10 weight categories will be contested, ranging from 49kg to Super Heavyweight 91kg+. For women, there are 6 categories, from 48 to 75kg.
- The competition is a knockout format, with the winner of each bout proceeding to the next round. Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and gold medal bouts will be completed, with Bronze medals awarded to the losers of the Semi Final bouts.
