eSports at the Commonwealth Games
The first Commonwealth Esports Championships was held at the same time as Birmingham 2022. Although this event was sanctioned by the Commonwealth Games Federation, the Championships ran independently of the official sporting program in Birmingham. It was a result of a partnership between the Global Esports Federation and the Commonwealth Games Federation.
The event provided esports athletes from across the Commonwealth the opportunity to compete for medals (though not official Commonwealth Games medals). The event was held at the International Convention Centre on August 6 and 7, 2022.
The event was organized by the Global Esports Federation, and included similar computer games that have been featured in other major eSports events. The event involved three games: Rocket League, eFootball, and Dota 2, each with a women’s and open category. Malaysian teams dominated, winning three of the six gold medals on offer.

It is unknown if esports will make a bid to be included in the program for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
