The International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's T20 World Cup is a biennial international cricket tournament of Twenty20 cricket for national women's teams. The tournament features the top teams from around the world competing in the T20 format, a shortened version of cricket played over 20 overs per team. There is also a men's T20 World Cup.
The first edition of the ICC Women's World T20 was held in 2009, and the most recent edition was held in 2023. The tournament features a group stage followed by knockout matches, with the winning team being crowned the World T20 champions.
The ICC Women's World T20 provides a platform for the best women's cricketers in the world to showcase their skills and compete for the top prize in the shortest format of the game. The tournament has grown in popularity and importance in recent years, with more countries fielding competitive teams and the quality of play improving.
For the first three tournaments eight countries participated, this number was raised to ten since 2014. Australia are the most successful team, having won the tournament five of the seven times to has been held. The number of teams will increase from 10 teams in 2024, to 12 in 2026, and 16 for the 2030 tournament.
The ICC World T20 takes place approximately every two years. The next event will be hosted in England in 2026.
