Rec Footy

Rec Footy is also known as Recreational Football. This sport is a non-contact version of an Australian Rules Football game. Recreational football was developed by the Australian Football league to increase women’s participation in sports as well as to create a game where everyone can play. It is the most accessible version and any gender, shape and size can play the game.

A Rec Footy match is composed of two teams, each with eight members. The field is smaller and the game is shorter than the Australian Rules Football game. Three female players are allowed per team - this is to encourage participation of female players in this kind of sport.

As in Australian Football, a free kick is given for sheparding, blocking, spoiling or smothering. However, kicking off the ground is not allowed.

In order to identify positions and teams of the players, they wear netball like bibs. The players are also restricted to move only within zones.
