Felice Gimondi (born 29 September 1942) is a former all-around rider in the mold of the great Italian Campionissimos. Her mother was a postal carrier who rode a bicycle to make her deliveries so he grew up cycling with her mother. Gimondi first rode at the 1964 Olympics Road Race where he finished in 33rd place. After winning the amateur version of Tour de France in 1965, he was signed as a profession to the Salvarani team.
Greatest Sporting Achievements
Gimondi is the only Italian to win all there Grand Tours (one Tour de France, three Giro d’Italia, one Vuelta a Espana). He is one of the only three riders to win the three grand tours, the World Championship Road Race placing second and third and the Paris-Roubaix Classic.
Why Was He So Good?
As a 22 year old, Gimondi rode aggressively during the early stages to put pressure on the contenders. He was high-speed and very aggressive that whenever his opponents are so close to him, he’ll cycle extremely fast. Felice Gimondi always had the strength necessary to put the finishing touch on his grand victories.
