There are many events in the international calendar for Rugby Union, and also significant events in national rugby competitions.
- World Cup (men) — The pinnacle of the sport of Rugby, the Rugby World Cup is an international rugby union competition played every four years. The next Rugby World Cup will be held in France in 2023.
- Women's World Cup — held every four years since 1991. The next will be held in 2022 in New Zealand.
- Olympic Games Rugby — Rugby returned to the Olympic Games in the form of a Rugby 7s tournament in 2016.
- Commonwealth Games Rugby — Rugby sevens is one of the core sports of the Commonwealth Games, and has been payed since 1998.
- Six Nations — an annual competition between six European sides: England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales.
- The Rugby Championship — an annual competition between four countries of the southern hemisphere: Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Argentina
- World Cup 7s — Organized by the International Rugby Board (IRB), the Rugby World Cup Sevens is the premier stand-alone international rugby sevens competition, competed by the national seven teams every four years.
- Krakow Rugby Festival — a social rugby tournament which takes placevin June in Krakow, Poland. The yearly tournament attracts international teams playing rugby 10s for the men and rugby 7s for the women.
