2000 Tour de France
The 2000 Tour de France, the 87th edition of the prestigious race, featured 21 stages and covered a total distance of approximately 3,662 kilometers (2,275 miles). The race began in Futuroscope, near Poitiers, and concluded in Paris.
American cyclist Lance Armstrong secured his second consecutive Tour de France victory. Armstrong took the yellow jersey after a strong performance in the mountainous 10th stage in the Pyrenees and solidified his lead with exceptional riding in the Alpine stages and time trials. He finished the race with a lead of 6 minutes and 2 seconds over German cyclist Jan Ullrich, who finished second, and Spaniard Joseba Beloki, who came in third.
Trivia
- The original winner of this tour was US rider Lance Armstrong, however after being found guilty of doping by the USADA in 2012, he was stripped of this and all the other titles.
