American cyclist Lance Armstrong secured his fourth consecutive Tour de France victory. Armstrong took the yellow jersey in the mountain stages, particularly excelling in the 11th stage to La Mongie in the Pyrenees, where he made a decisive move. His dominance continued in the individual time trials, further extending his lead. Armstrong finished the race with a commanding lead of over seven minutes ahead of second-place finisher Joseba Beloki of Spain, while Lithuanian rider Raimondas Rumšas completed the podium in third place.
Trivia
- The original winner of this tour was US rider Lance Armstrong, however after being found guilty of doping by the USADA in 2012, he was stripped of this and all the other titles.
